  • 4 cups chicken/beef/vegetable broth
  • 12 oz wontons (frozen or homemade)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ cup neutral oil (peanut, avocado, vegetable, or canola)
  • ¼ cup red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger (minced)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Start by making the chili oil. Combine red pepper flakes, sesame seeds, minced garlic, minced ginger, sugar, and salt in a heat-safe bowl. Heat the neutral oil until hot and pour over the mixture; stir and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, melt coconut oil and sauté the white parts of green onions with garlic and ginger until fragrant.
  3. Add your choice of broth to the pot and bring to a simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Introduce the wontons along with soy sauce; simmer until heated through.
  5. Serve hot in bowls topped with dark green onion tops and drizzled generously with chili oil.
