Ingredients
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 1 honeycrisp apple (thinly sliced)
- 2 large yellow onions (sliced 1/2 inch thick)
- 8 oz cheddar cheese (grated)
- 2 oz brie cheese (sliced into 1/2" slivers)
- 1 tbsp fresh sage (chopped)
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter (divided)
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- To caramelize the onions, heat 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and stir occasionally. After 10 minutes, add 1 teaspoon kosher salt and continue cooking for an additional 30–40 minutes until golden brown.
- In a bowl, mix chopped sage with remaining softened butter and salt to create sage butter.
- Assemble the sandwich by layering brie, cheddar, apple slices, caramelized onions, and more cheddar between two slices of bread spread with sage butter.
- Cook in a skillet over medium heat with olive oil for about 6 minutes per side until golden brown.
