- 240 g sour cream (room temperature)
- 60 g vegetable oil (e.g., canola oil)
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 200 g cream cheese (room temperature)
- 280 g powdered sugar
- 30 g dark brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices; set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat butter with granulated and dark brown sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then mix in sour cream and vegetable oil and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually incorporate dry ingredients into the wet mixture on low speed until just combined.
- Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- For frosting, beat room-temperature butter with powdered sugars until creamy; add cream cheese and mix until smooth.
