- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to dry ingredients; mix until smooth.
- Stir in hot coffee (or water) until combined.
- Divide batter evenly among prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool layers completely before transferring to wire racks.
- For the orange filling, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan. Gradually whisk in orange juice; cook over medium heat until thickened. Stir in zest and butter; cool completely.
- For the ganache, heat cream until steaming; pour over chopped chocolate and let sit for 2 minutes before stirring until smooth.
- Assemble the cake by layering one cake layer with half the orange filling; repeat with the second layer before topping with the third layer.
- Pour ganache over the assembled cake and garnish as desired.
