- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp granulated sugar, for sprinkling on top
- 1/2 cup cold butter (or vegan butter)
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup milk (any kind)
- 1 tsp milk for top
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
- 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter)
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, spices, salt, and sugar.
- Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles small peas.
- Add milk and molasses; stir until just combined.
- Shape the dough into a circle on a parchment-lined baking sheet, about 3/4" thick.
- Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
- Cut into wedges and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- If desired, prepare icing by whisking powdered sugar, melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract together.
- Drizzle icing over warm scones before serving.
