Ingredients

Scale
  • 700g (1.5 lbs) beef chuck, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 cup beef broth or water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent (about 5-7 minutes). Stir in garlic and ginger; cook for another 2 minutes.
  2. Add pureed tomatoes and cook for an additional 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in the spices.
  3. Add the beef chunks to the pot and stir well to coat with spices. Pour in beef broth or water and bring to a gentle boil.
  4. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer for about 1.5 hours or until beef is tender, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in yogurt until well combined.
