Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pieces Chicken (legs or thighs)
  • 1 large Onion (sliced)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth
  • 1 cup Dried Apricots or Prunes
  • ½ cup Toasted Almond Slivers
  • Fresh Parsley or Cilantro (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Sauté sliced onions until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  2. Add chicken pieces to the pan and sear each side until golden brown (about 4–5 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, stir in turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, black pepper, and salt. Pour in chicken broth and lemon juice while scraping up any browned bits.
  4. Return chicken to the pot along with dried fruits. Bring to a simmer, cover, and reduce heat to low. Cook for about 30 minutes until fully cooked through.
  5. Remove from heat and garnish with toasted almond slivers and chopped parsley or cilantro before serving.
