- 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- 2 ½ tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, slightly beaten
- 3 cups bread flour
- ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons fine sea salt
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water
- Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, yeast, sugar, and beaten egg until well mixed.
- Gradually add both flours and mix until incorporated. Add salt and room temperature butter; knead on medium-low speed for about 10 minutes until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size (1-2 hours).
- Divide the dough into eight equal portions and shape each into a ball. Place on lined baking sheets to rise again until puffy (about 1 hour).
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Brush each bun with an egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds if desired before baking for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
