Ideal for parties, holidays, or simply to satisfy a sweet craving, these caramel apples will impress family and friends alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 12 Granny Smith apples
  • 7-inch apple sticks
  • Toppings of choice (e.g., nuts, sprinkles, chocolate chips)

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the Granny Smith apples thoroughly. Insert wooden sticks into the tops of each apple.
  2. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk. Stir until boiling.
  3. Attach a candy thermometer and boil until it reaches 240°F (soft ball stage). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  4. Cool the caramel slightly before dipping each apple into the mixture until fully coated. Allow excess caramel to drip off.
  5. While still warm, add desired toppings to each apple before placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Let the apples sit at room temperature until the caramel sets completely.
