  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 cup baking cocoa (sifted)
  • 2 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter for ganache
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla for ganache
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar for ganache

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour round baking pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the cake flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt, and pudding mix.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and stir in vanilla.
  4. Gradually combine the dry mixture with buttermilk until just mixed.
  5. Divide batter into pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes and prepare ganache by melting chocolate chips with water and butter over medium heat. Stir in vanilla and powdered sugar until smooth.
  7. Once cakes are cool, layer them with ganache in between and frost the top and sides.
